BEN CERULLO: Today I would like to talk to you about God’s purpose for your life. We’ve all hear it said that God has a plan for our lives. That sounds good in theory, but you might be asking yourself what does it really mean to me? So many of us go through life after we have received Jesus as our Lord and Savior wondering what our purpose is and how do we find it. I don’t have a fix all answer to tell you what specific purpose God has for your life, but I do have a method you can use to find it.
First of all, purpose in life is not just to be saved, not just to have our sins forgiven, to go to church, to pray a little, read your Bible a little, maybe work in your community or go on a missions trip. God’s purpose for your life is much greater then you could ever imagine. God created you for a purpose. He created you to fill a need or a void in the world. He created you to be a part of his body here on this earth, and he’s counting on you. In order for Gods kingdom to come and his will to be done, here on this earth, as it is in Heaven then it’s important that we find Gods will for our lives and start walking in it.
One of my favorite verses is found in John 15:16. It says, “You have not chosen me, but I have chosen you and ordained you that you should go and bring forth fruit and that your fruit would remain. What so ever you would ask the Father, in my name, he may give it to you. Wow, God has chosen you. He wants to use your life in amazing ways to reach others and to prove to the world that He is who He claims to be. It’s pretty amazing to think that we didn’t chose to follow Christ but He actually chose us. He chose us, while we were still sinners before you were ever formed in mother’s womb, that God knew you. In fact, let’s take it a step further, not only did he know you, but her formed you, the Bible says.
What does all this mean? It means that God knitted you together uniquely. There is not another you. God put all the right pieces together and a package called you. Here’s another thing we all must understand. Your mother, your father, they’re not the source of your life. Your mother was just a tool that God used to bring you into the world. You’re not an accident, you’re not a mistake and you’re not worthless. You are a child of God, created in His image and likeness for a purpose. Your mother did not give you life, but God did. God breathed into you. He created you and formed you in your mother’s womb.
Are you ready for this? He gave birth to you. I need you to hear this. God does not give birth to failure. You’re not a failure. God is on your side. Listen to this, Romans 8:29-31 says, “For those He for-knew, He also destined from the beginning to be molded into the image of His son that he might become the first born of many brethren. Those who will be ordained, He also called. To those He called, He also justified. Those he justified, He also glorified. What then shall we say to all of this? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
How awesome is it to know that the king of the universe called us to be in his family? The Bible teaches us that the Lord drew us to Him by His spirit and not by some coincidence. The million dollar question is what did God choose us for? Let’s find out. God has big plans for your life, but God always puts a “but” in there, He puts an “if” in there. Why does he do that? It’s because He requires us to partner with him. It’s there to say that if you do your part, then I’ll do my part. In order for us to step out into our destiny and start being used my God that He asks you, “Will you surrender your will, your life to Him every day, and seek him with all your heart?”
God has gifted each one of us in different areas so He can use us. The Devil might try to tell you that you’re not good enough to be used by God that your sins are too many, too bad, too terrible, but that’s not true. The Devil is a liar. He tries to use those lies to make us feel unworthy. Realize that no matter what you have done in your past, even if you have slipped and messed up today, God still loves you. He wants to use your life and there is nothing you could ever do to change that.
How do you find out what your purpose is? Well, I have found that most Christians usually fall into one of three groups when it comes to finding Gods will or purpose for their lives. One, many of them are spiritually lazy. They want someone to give them the secret answer or the magic formula that gives them 3 easy steps that automatically reveal Gods plan for their lives. Others are so fearful of making a mistake or missing Gods will that they are afraid to move in any direction. They become frustrated and get stuck going around and around the mountain.
Finally, there are those who are ready to do whatever it takes to find Gods will for their lives but they just don’t know where to begin. Well, there’s no magic formulas to follow to find Gods purpose for you. God never wants finding his will for your life to be a burden or to be a cause of stress in your life. God has given you a great promise in Jeremiah 29:11-14. These verses say, “I say this because I know what I have planned for you, says the Lord. I have good plans for you, not plans to hurt you. I want to give you a hope and a good future. Then, you will call on my name. You’ll come to me and pray to me and I will listen to you. You will search for me and when you search for me with all your heart you will find me. I will let you find me, says the Lord.”
God will not reveal himself or his plans to a half-hearted seeker. If you will seek him, and you’ll seek his purpose for your life with all of your heart, then the Bible says and God promises that you’ll find it. It doesn’t matter how old you are, how young you are or how many mistakes you’ve made. It’s never too late to find out and start walking in Gods purpose for your life. It’s never too late for God to use you. You can still fulfill the destiny that He’s created for you. God looks at your heart. As long as you’re doing your best to put Him first and to seek him then He will do the rest.
God isn’t counting on you and your own strength. God is counting on what He can make of your life, so I challenge you today. Get into Gods word, get on your face before the Lord and seek Him, not with some of your heart but all of your heart, all of your strength, your mind, and your might. Cry out to Him and don’t stop until your breakthrough comes. I promise you, when you get desperate enough; you’re going to get Gods attention. He is going to answer you. He will reveal His plans for you. Don’t allow yourself to become discouraged but press in. God is watching, and wait for those who are hungry.
It’s also important, when you hear the Lord speak to you, that you step out in faith. I say in faith because it’s going to take faith to do what God has planned for your life. It will always be impossible for you to accomplish on your own. That’s why you’ve got to step out on faith, so that God can step into your life and begin to use you to release His kingdom here on this earth as it is in heaven. Don’t be afraid. Today is your day. Go after it. Hope you have enjoyed the message this week. Be sure to tune in next week. Remember, Jesus is coming. God bless you and I’ll see you next time.
